THE StoryHeart Strings captures the very essence of the individual: their dialect, mannerisms, and personality. It is more than a life story – it is the investment in the life of a loved one and the preservation of their memory in the future. Each of us has a story to tell. That story becomes much more important at the end of our lives when we reflect on our loved ones, our memories, and the life we lived. Our legacy to our spouse, parents, children, grandchildren, and friends is our departing gift. There are few opportunities in life when you can give a gift of love and receive one at the same time.
THE giftAfter a one-hour session and then an editing session, patients are provided with 5 bound copies on resume paper of their Heart Strings, written as a story of their lives. They may choose to gift them to their loved ones immediately or hold for a future time. Bound storybooks with pictures are also available.
Dignity Therapy ensures that a lifetime of memories will not be lost.

'“I remember sitting on the porch with my grandma. She had been in the garden and she was shucking or cutting beans and the mailman would come. "Go get the paper" she would tell me. I wasn't in school yet. After I got the paper, I had to read the comics. Not the news, the comics. And if I had trouble with a word, I'd spell it out to her and she would help me pronounce it. I could read very well when I started school at five years old. My grandma didn't have a formal education of any kind, you know but she taught me how to read. She was also a great story teller and I think that passed onto me.”

Conducted by a trained, certified, and skilled practitioner, Heart Strings provides a safe, individually tailored environment for hospice, end- of-life, and early stage dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease patients. We review the most meaningful aspects of their lives, leaving final words for family members and loved ones, and gifting them with a legacy document to be shared for generations to come. The resulting document rises above the daily fray, focusing on overarching and meaningful truths, feelings and insights.
As we age, we have a greater desire to make sense of the world, to find our place in it knowing that our lives were meaningful, and to pass those lessons onto future generations.
